A little bit about me
- I have worked with people with disability since 2021.
- I would describe my practice as adaptive, coaching, collaborative, culturally responsive, developmental, evidence-based, family-centred, goal-oriented, holistic, motivational, neurodiversity-affirming, person-centred, practical, sensory-informed, skill-building, social skills-focused, strengths-based and trauma-informed. I adapt my approach so each person receives support that fits their goals and circumstances.
- I enjoy spending time bush walking, gardening, hiking, learning new skills, meditating, on DIY Projects, painting, practicing mindfulness, staying fit, trying new things, watching movies, watching TV Shows, with family or friends and with my dog - interests that often help spark connection with the people I support.
- People I work with often describe me as approachable, calm, compassionate, empathetic, encouraging, friendly, inclusive, kind, patient, positive, respectful, thoughtful, trustworthy, understanding and warm, which reflects the environment I aim to create when delivering support.
What I like most about supporting people
Spending time with them invokes a new way of thinking, which encourages thought beyond the common perspective, searching deeper beyond what is visible to the eye. I believe that each individual has something to teach or a message to share. I love searching for what gifts lie in each person. I love to look at disability in a validating way, recognising that life may be even more challenging than the common experience due to various barriers, making everything they do, even more special and praiseworthy. I love having a sense of purpose in helping others achieve their goals and seeing them for who they are. Being a partner in someone's growth, in either their confidence building, or seeing them reach a milestone they once thought was out of reach, is really rewarding, as well as just being a 'safe space' for them where they can feel encouraged and proud of themselves.
